Opening a shift

Updated: August 29, 2026

Open your shift in the app before you do anything else — the timer, task list and report all depend on it, and several checks run automatically the moment you tap Start shift.

Before you start

Make sure location access is turned on for the app. Starting a shift sends your current GPS position to the server, and it has to be fresh:

  • If your device hasn't reported a location recently, you'll see "Fresh geolocation required".
  • If the app had the page open for a while before you tapped Start, you may see "Geolocation expired, retry" — just refresh the page and try again so it grabs a current position.

Start the shift

Open IceFleet and tap Start shift on the home screen, then pick your location (bicycle/point) if it isn't already selected.

Two checks happen at this point that aren't obvious from the UI:

  • You must physically be at the location. The app checks your GPS against the garage and route/park coordinates configured for that point. If you're outside both allowed radii, you'll get "Worker outside allowed start zones" — this isn't a bug, it's by design, so make sure you're actually on-site.
  • Timing matters. You can start a shift no earlier than 30 minutes before its scheduled time, and not after your assigned end time has already passed.

Tapping Start twice on a shift you already joined is safe — it won't create a duplicate or throw an error, it just reopens the same shift.

What happens automatically

  • Your join time is recorded on the shared shift for that location — other workers scheduled there can start alongside you.
  • The task checklist for the shift appears: shared (crew) tasks everyone on the point can see, plus anything assigned personally to you or to your position (e.g. cashier).
  • A draft report is created so numbers you enter during the shift are saved as you go, not only at the end.
  • You can push a running cash-in-drawer total during the shift from the active shift screen — useful for a running float check before the final report.

If the app won't let you start

Most often this means one of the checks above failed. If you truly can't start and none of the messages above match, ask a manager — they can check whether the location's start-zone coordinates are configured at all, or open the shift for you.
